93 Civic stalls

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Apurba Mukherjee, Dec 12, 2004.

  1. Hi,
I have a 93 Civic Ex with 124k miles. Recently it has started stalling
when i put it in drive/reverse and try to drive off/reverse. This only
happens sometimes. When I try starting after that, it takes quite a few
turns before the engine reluctantly comes to life; and i have a new
battery. The other day i was stopped at a traffic light, and on green i
accelerated and had the car stall in the middle of a busy
intersection...... very scary experience. I said my prayers and started
the car and was able to drive off.

Am thinking its probably the distributor. not sure which part, just the
coil or mebbe the O2 sensor??

Could it be some other electronic component?

    any help greatly appreciated!

    Tony.

How old are the plug wires and distributor cap/rotor?

With the engine running, pull one of the wires off the plug and hold it an
inch from a metal part of the engine. If you don't see a good, fat, noisy
blue/white spark, the wires may need replacing.

    -----------------------

There was a HUGE recall of ignition switches a couple of years ago. It
included many Odyssey, Accord, CRV, and Civics.

Do a Google search for 'honda ignition switch' and you'll see that you
might want to just get it changed. It's very unpredictable, especially
when turning across oncoming traffic (happened to me).

You might even be covered by the recall. Ask your dealer to run your V.I.N.
