93 Honda accord oil in spark plugs.

    Help!
    I have a 1993 Honda accord. 4 cyl. 16 valve... I have oil in all 4
    plugs. I not talking about a little either, There is a good amount. I
    did put new spark plugs in
    She is running, but is not very happy about doing so. The shaking is
    like high speed on a washer and the shaking seems to subside some as i
    get to about 50 mph.
    what is wrong with her? Why is this happening? Did I do something to
    her that would have made this happen? I very worried. She my only car.
    Please help!!!

    Rings shot. Oil fouling on plugs means no spark. Sounds like you've
    about hit the end of the line on this engine.

  3. Do you mean oil in the port on the outside of the head. I mean when
    you pull the plug wire off is it covered with oil and there is oil in
    the cavity. If so, you need a new valve cover gasket set that also
    has gaskets to keep oil from going into the plug cavities.

    Shake could come from a number of causes. Poor tire balance, bad
    inside cv joint (mostly on acceleration), way out of time (slipped
    timing belt) and other causes.

    If you mean that the oil is on the insided of the head/cylinder much
    bigger problem. Of course if that is the case, your tail pipe should
    be resembling a mosquito fogger. If that is the case you could be
    missing from the plugs fouling out and that is causing the shake.

    As I pulled the plug wires out they where filled with oil , the plugs
    where coverd too.
    Shaking is also going on as I'm a stop light. I feel that it has
    something to do with the plugs some how. When I put the new ones in the
    shaking and jumping stoped for about 10 min. of driving time . Then
    came back again.....oh, hum....
    But my tail pipe is not smoking. Is that good or bad?
    See she a 1993 she got some age to her she has 180k so a valve job ?
    I have 16 of them... Is that alot of money? Head and cylinder that
    sounds like alot too..

    WHERE were they "covered"?

    On the threaded part? Above the hex nut part?

    It's fairly common for Hondas with this many miles and years on them to have
    leaks at one or two rubber seals per spark plug tube. If you take off one of
    the ignition wires again, and peer into the hole with a flashlight, one of
    the seals should be very obvious (it's right at the hole entrance). The
    other is only an O-ring and is a couple inches further down. You should
    still be able to see or feel it. I confirmed your 93 Accord does have both
    of these seals, using an online parts site that has drawings.

    The easier seal to replace is the upper one. It should cost you no more than
    about $75. If you're a little handy you could do these upper seals yourself.

    The more difficult seal to replace should take around two to four hours of
    Honda book labor. The technician will have to adjust your 16 valves, too.
    It's not a beginner job. If you know how to set the valve lash, then you
    could do it.

    I would be surprised if the valves or rings needed replacement, assuming
    you've generally maintained this car well.

    I would get the valve cover gasket changed out. Maybe the oil is creating a
    short to ground with your sparkplug wires??

    new valve cover gasket, with o-rings. simple job at an independant mechanic.
    whens the last time its had new plug wires, rotor, and distributor cap?
    basic "major tuneup" stuff, but not expensive. it also directly affects
    idle quality.

    I have a 93 accord, and while changing the spark plugs I noticed oil on
    one of the wires when I pulled the spark plug wire. When I pulled the
    plug out, there was oil on the inside of the plug as well. I was a bit
    concerned at that, but someone mentioned when unscrewing and pulling
    the spark plug, the oil on the top would seep into the inside half of
    the plug. I did change the valve cover gasket and the O-seals myself.
    Car is fine.

    It is a little surprising that you have all four seals leaking.
    I would definitely try the gasket and O ring seals first as it is the
    cheapest fix.

    Please only buy the genuine Honda parts and you don't have to use any
    sealant.
    I think the gasket plus O-ring seals would be about $40 dollars.

    It's get more expensive why you buy Valve conver gasket and 4 o-ring
    all cost more than
    $40 dollar. It's pure rid off. It's just piece of rubber they charge
    more for the car part.

    My fault, I was too lazy to check my receipt.

    Anyway, I just checked it.

    Valve Cover gasket = $11.00
    4 O-ring seals = $13.00

    All in Canadian dollars. Divide by 1.2 to get $20 USD.

    I should have been more precised.. But it is still too much for a
    piece of rubber.
