94 Accord EXR consumes too much gas

Since the beginning of the winter my Accord has been consuming about
14l/100km, which is about 2-3l/100km more than the previous winter, in
identical driving conditions. The car passed an emissions test in the
spring with great numbers. I just changed the spark plugs a few weeks
ago (a month after I noticed the consumption increase). I've looked at
the muffler, and it's not dirtier than last winter, but it does have a
hole in it. The hole is in the muffler itself, the exhaust pipe, cat
converter and everything else are fine.

The only differences between this winter and last is the extra 30k km I
put on the car. All oil changes have been done at no more than 6000km
(I'm using Castrol Synthetic right now). The car is not burning oil, and
it's not overheating. I'm even using gas from the same gas station
whenever possible (Petro Canada). It's due for a timing belt/water pump
change and a valve adjustment in about 10000km.

Any ideeas what should I look for?

    Thanks,

    Cosmin

Replace the PCV valve. Around $20 tops for the part. Labor should be under half
    an hour.

  3. And the air cleaner if you don't know when it was last done.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into the PCV valve problem. As to the
air cleaner, is that the same as air filter? I'm assuming it's not.

I briefly checked the Honda manual that I have (Haynes I believe, bought
from Canadian Tire), and I couldn't find any mentions of either a PCV
valve or an air cleaner, but I'll look again today.
