new battery, alternator less than 2 months old - yesterday, the tach and
speedo started to bounce when the signal was turned on - AAA says alternator
went bad - why didn't my battery light come on? the bulb is good.

    It's not your alternator . . Take a look at tegger's FAQ

    www.tegger.com/hondafaq/

I'm sure you'll find your answer (and many more).

The charge light will come on if there is NO output from the alternator. If
it's charging too little--or overcharging--the light will not come on.

I forgot I posted here and I am attempting to remove the alternator since
the parts store gave me a replacement. I think I have to remove the exhaust
pipe to make enough clearance to remove the alternator. I find the main
wire is melted at the terminal of the alternator and the insulation a couple
inches up the wire has bubbled.

I'll check the tegger faq before I go further.

I also decided to add a real voltmeter as AutoZone didn't have an add-on
    ammeter to install.

The only thing I found in the faq was possibly a bad battery if it goes
flat, but mine is holding a charge. I'll continue with removing the
    alternator.
