I was wondering what of mileage other people were getting with similar cars.
    I have a 94 civic EX 1.6 5 speed with almost 180K. I get about 28-29 MPG
combined. I was expecting better mileage when it I bought the car - My
    daughter's 97 escort 2.0L 5 speed gets around 35. How does this compare w/
other comperable civics. BTW - AC is almost always on - This is
Louisiana and we still have another month or so of summer to go.

You have the VTEC version which does worse fuel economy-wise
than the non-VTEC version, at 25/32 city/highway by the
government tests. I think the individual estimates at
fueleconomy.gov are as helpful, though. For your car, listed
    are
    34.4 Texas 50/50 city/highway
    37.7 Georgia 35/65
    32.0 New York 70/30
    36.6 Texas 90/10

after you've checked the usual suspects, ignition, valve lash, injector
cleaner, timing, air filter, etc., look into the tw sensor. my 89 civic
was giving me high 20's around town before, but with the new sensor, i'm
getting 32/33. freeway is much the same though.

I have a '95 EX sedan with the 1.6 VTEC engine. I drive gently, keep
the tires inflated to about 39psi, and use the A/C only when coasting or
driving at constant speed on level ground. I consistently average about
41 MPG on midgrade, and about 37 on regular. So I use midgrade. This is
driving 1/3 easy city driving, 2/3 highway driving, light to moderate
    traffic.

Is this the same TW that feeds the gauge? if so, it seems to be working
fine. I wouldnt mind getting a few more mpg - especially with the little
    11 gal tank

no, it's the one that signals the ecu, the larger one with two leads.
    they're separate.

It stopped coming on without me doing anything. Maybe it is the
    ignition switch...

Not likely the ignition switch. The ABS does a self test every time
you start the car. While its off, do a couple of hard stops on a
gravel or dirt road and exercise the system. Sometimes, that will get
it going for a while. But - change the ABS fluid if you haven't
    already.

It never stayed on after startup, or came on while braking. The
system should have gotten new fluid with the new brakes, but I'll look
    at it.

The ABS is a separate system with its own reservoir and fluid. It
would not have been changed unless you specifically asked for it.
