Hi, I'm looking for some advice on a problem I have with my 1995 civic
ex coupe with approx 167k miles. I notice a "clunk" sound from both
sides whenever I put load on and off the front axle such as during
intial acceleration or initial braking. There is no clicking noise,
just the intial clunk as if something is loose somewhere in the front
axle or suspension region. It happens when I'm turning as well as
going in a straight line but only when I change loads on the axle. I
had both half-shafts replaced and afterwards the problem wasn't
initially as frequent. Now it's been about six months and the
clunking is much more frequent, like before I had the axles replaced.
The replacement units were remanufactured units but appeared like new
with no installation problems. I cannot determine exactly where the
clunking sound is coming from but it's definitely from the front and
from both sides. I can't feel it through the steering column nor are
there any vibrations. I can definitely hear it with the windows up or
down. I just don't know if it's something with the axles or
suspension components or whatever else... Please advise.

I had a similar problem on a different type of car, the problem was a
    bad tie rod end.
On a related note, 3 independant shops in Seattle WA. claimed it to be a
    bad steering
rack to the tune of 400-450 dollars installed. the total cost was less
    than 50 dollars
    when all was done.
