A friend has a 97 CRV that occasionally stalls at stop signs. After the
engine dies, it easily starts back up. When it dies, it stops
immediately without any sputtering. The vehicle is 2wd automatic and
has 124k miles. Any ideas what might be causing this problem.
    thanks,

If it only does it during the first five minutes after startup, tell
your friend to get a valve adjustment ASAP, and don't go on any long
drives until it's done. Tell him to have it done on the 'loose' side of
    the spec.

He should also write a note in his owner's manual that the valves should
be adjusted every 30,000 miles. If it happens hot or cold (engine), ask
whether he has the ignition switch replaced during the GREAT IGNITION
    SWITCH RECALL.
