OK I cannot remember if the clock light is always on whether the car is
running or not. Once again my clock light is not on and I just got it back
from having my Alpine car stereo worked on. I could've sworn that when
sitting in my garage and the car was not running I could see the time on the
clock. Of course the stereo shop is denying they clock light is there
problem. I've already had the clock replaced the last time the car was at
this stereo shop because the clock was not working at all when I got it back
    from them.

    TIA,

    Rick

  2. It is.

It's not. It's sheer coincidence. The clock light isn't the strongest
    piece in the world.

Do you know how to replace the clock light? It's a 30 second process,
and a $2 bulb from the dealer.

Thanks....I thought the light was on all the time just needed someone to
confirm. As for coincidence, not this time. I accepted the first time the
clock light going out as a coincidence when they installed the Alpine
headunit on the 16th of August. My Honda mechanic said the same thing about
the bulb not being the strongest. He 1st tried to replace the bulb but that
did not work so I got a new clock. Yesterday just before the stereo shop
started in on chasing down the infamous speaker whine when I stepped on the
gas problem I told them that this is a new clock less than a month old.
When I got the car home and in my closed garage NO light. The clock is 40
bucks and I just don't know if it's worth it to me to drive to the mechanic
confirm in writing, drive to the stereo shop screw with them the drive back
to the mechanic to have the clock replaced again blah blah blah.

At least the stereo shop successfully chased down the whine issue. This
particular Alpine headunit is considered high power because the internal amp
is 60W x4. Alpine requires that a dedicated, fused power cable be installed
from the headunit directly to the battery. While the stereo shop did that
the 1st time ( I was watching them) they did not use the Alpine recommended
gauged power cable. They re-installed the proper gauged power cable this
time and the whine is gone.

  4. Well, first confirm that in fact a new bulb won't work. You know, it
could just be coincidence and a new bulb could fix it.

Since it's so bloody easy to do, there's no reason not to try that first.

The main car computer should be under the passenger kick panel. Power
for the clock originates from that box. Some cars had splices in this
    area and after time corroded.

Easy to test once you gain access. Grip the wire bundle and lightly
wiggle it with the car on where you can view the clock. If it goes off
and on you have found your problem.
