We just bought a '99 Civic Coupe EX. I wanted to ask what's different
about the year's '99-00 as I see these two years offset from '96-98. But
they look essentially the same, except for different colored tail lights
    and headlamps.

Can anyone tell me if there are structural/part/engine/anything
different about 99-00 model years vs. 96-98? I'd like to know for
    aftermarket purposes. Thank you.

I believe some controls knobs around the a/c are different but not sure.

Inside I believe its all the same...

My wife has a 98 and i have a 99, both are coupes and EX trim. This is what
I have found different so far:
    Hood is different
    grill is wider on 99
Front "H" is bigger on 99
headlights are shaped slightly different (not interchangable)
Heat sheild on header is different
    O2 sensor locations are different
    Front bumper is different
Rear bumper is different contour (found this out when i put on honda
    mudskirts)
Keyless entry remote is different (option button on 98 to turn off beep, not
    on 99)
98 beeps with first lock, 99 beeps with second lock
Exterior lights blink when locking and unlocking on 99, not on 98
Keyless entry is combined with stock radio on 98 and separate with 99
all heater/AC controls and radio opening are different
99 has a height adjustable driver's seat, 98 does not
transmission disengaging opening by shifter is different
Cup holders and bottom opening are different
and that is about all i can think of right now

as for the difference between the 99 and 2000 I have only noticed a few
things (my mother in law has a 2000)
The 2000 comes with a cup holder insert for the right side cup holder (i
would recommend getting one, it holds the cups more firmly, only $6 from
    dealer)
2000 comes with child safety harness mounts, 99 &98 have pop-outs, but the
    hardware is separate

    I hope this helps

When they repaired the damage, it looks like they replaced the parts
    with '98
pieces as the '99 'H' I bought was way too big to fit the bracket (for
that matter, neither did the '98 I bought to replace it. Cheap
aftermarket). The fender and bumper don't meet on the driver's side,
    either.
That explains the gap between the one '99 light and the grill....The
other is a 98 light and fits perfectly. Thank goodness these parts are
dirt cheap in aftermarket. Looks like we'll need to replace some stuff
if we want it to be a true '99.

This car had had the rear lights removed and they were replaced with
'98's styling. I wonder if that's why the wrong parts were put on the
car? They thought it was a '98?
It confused the heck out of me, too, until I realized what they had
    done.
    Good head's up.
    See above misalignment story.... :(
Hmmm, I wonder if this is why it bows out on each side (under the gas
cap), or if that was a rearender they hid.
Are the years interchangeable, though? Will a '98 remote still unlock a
    '99?
    Great info, thanks!
Haven't found the adjuster for this. But then, didn't know about it,
    either! Thanks!
I wonder if that's the little hole to the left front of the shifter that
looks like someone gouged it out?
Very kewl that you helped me this much.
Sounds like you'll be my main man for info about my newest project
    car.... :)
Thanks for another good head's up.
My 16 year old better not need this feature for a LONG while!!
Thanks so much, Greg, for answering my query. I'm new to this group and
hoped for a message just like the one you left!

sounds like somebody did a frankenstein job on parts of your new car.
The 98 remotes will not work on the 99's they have differenct FCC codes on
the back, therefore they have different frequencies.
As for the height adjustable driver's seat, there should be two big knobs on
the left side of the seat. I am assuming you are talking about an american
EX version. I'm not sure if the lower trim levels have the height
    adjustable seat.
If you stick your key in the hole by the shifter it will disengage the brake
lock so you can shift into neutral if you have to tow it.

Another thing I would recomend is to go to www.handaaccessories.com and get
the factory honda alarm. It only goes off when you open the doors or the
trunk, but it is very easy to install because all of the wiring harnesses
are already installed. It is only $60.38 right now, $127 off the list price

    Hope this helps
let me know if you need any more help

Like Frankenstein, it's cute to look at. But, the fit and finish I worry
    about.
Yes. Didn't notice the knobs...Will have another look.
You bet it does! We were just at the electronic shop having the stereo
looked over and the amp mounted, and just looked at alarms. My son
didn't want to spend big bucks, so your suggestion is a good one. I've
been to their site already so I know of where you speak. HandA....pretty
    sneaky and cool. :)

the factory alarm does not require the factory radio. I put mine in about 4
months ago with my JVC KDLH 1000. the 99's bypass the radio unlike the 98's

Several years back, I forget the site, they had a list of about 15
nit-picky stuff that was outstanding for the 96-97 model but nothing for
the 98 model. After 5 years of extreme driving on my 98 Hatch, the only
thing I have to complain about is the loose panelling around the hatch
door that rattles. Otherwise, the car still behaves like new. The 4 year
hold Eibach springs and Tockico shocks are at 100% (or maybe 95%). It
took me 4 years and about 90,000km before I replaced my Toyo Proxes FZ4
195/50/15 tires... oops, I'm off on a tangent again...
