Has anyone replaced their inner tie rod? I have a '99, but I assume
other years are about the same. Is it relatively easy to do? It looks a
bit tight to get the 2 wrenches in there. And how did you crimp the
boot band without the Oetiker tool? This is the drivers side.

    Thanks,

You can look at www.slhondaparts for the diagram, and www.odyclub.com to
see if anybody wrote up the procedure. Chilton's manual 30300 (picture
of red CR-V on the front) is probably the quick way of getting the
procedure into your hands if you don't find it elsewhere. I got the
    manual at my Honda dealer.

  3. Have you checked it? I thought my 98 civic had a bad inner tie rod too, but
upon thorough inspection, it was the Steering U-Joint that was creating play
    in the steering system.

Pop the outer tie rod out of its taper and see if there is any play in the
tie rod itself. If not, its probably the rack or something in the steering
    column.

Yup, I checked it. I originally thought it was the outer joint, then
while replacing the outer, I realized it was the inner.

If you've got high mileage, adjust the center nut on the underside of
the rack. It's adjustable to compensate for wear. (at least it is on the
CR-V. I thought it was my inner joint too.

130,000 mi. Its only loose on the drivers side. Other side is tight.
Could this still be rack adjustment or would it be loose on both sides?

    Thanks
