AC blows white colored air

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by militantpeaches, Jun 22, 2006.

  1. Hi,

I have a honda civic, and sometimes when the ac is very cold and has
been on a while, white air comes out, looks smokelike, but it is
definately not. Is this a problem or is it just because the air is so
cold. I another honda civic that did this as well, utnil its air
conditioning broke. (this is partly why I am so concerned, because the
auto repairman raved about how honda AC was terrible). I dunno,
hopefully someone can help me figure out the whte air.

When you drive through a area of humid air, the air coming in through
the vents is more humid than the air inside your car and when it is
cooled rapidly by your a/c condenser it condenses and makes the fog or
"smoke" that you descibed. It's a good sign that your a/c is working.

  4. It might mean that ice is developing on the evaporator and forcing air
around the sides. Normally the evaporator fins collect the fog out of
the air. Check the air temperature with a thermometer to see at what
point your AC cycles on and off. It shouldn't reach freezing
temperature. The thermostat might be bad or it may have fallen off the
    evaporator.

As for what your mechanic said, Honda ACs are typically underpowered and
the condenser is placed under the bumper in the path of flying stones.

¡Qué asco! Nunca se dice "problemo" en español, ni es "nada" adjetivo. Te
sugiero que uses "ningún problema" o "no hay problema", salvo que tengas
    orgullo de ser ignorante.

This is a very common concern with most civics and alot of other brands.
this is a normal characteristic.if you switch to fresh air when this
happens the misting will subside. it is the same effect as opening your
freezer door on a hot humid day. the honda civic does have a very small ac
condensor there for making it work very hard on those sticky days.

I have worked as service manager for honda for 11 yrs. I cant begin to
tell you how many times i have had this conversation.
Drive your civic have fun. No worries.
