    Hello:

Is regular "gas" suggested (and O.K.) for a new 2004 6 Cyl. Accord ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

  2. Check the owner's manual for the recommended gasoline.

It will probably say 86 or 87 octane. However, someone around here has
for some time been repeating a quote from a Honda engineer saying "use
93 octane and watch what happens". Maybe they built the engine and
tuned the electronics to take advantage of higher octane fuel.

That would be a definite departure from the typical family-hauler frame
of mind, but it *would* be in line with Honda's typical engineering
    attitudes.

Ok? Yes. The owner's manual says so. But my 2003 EX V6 gets premium. Try
a couple of tanks. Hit the accelerator on a highway when passing at 65
    MPH and you'll know why.

The engine has a high compression ratio and a knock sensor. It will take
advantage of the higher octane but will also tolerate regular.

Because I do frequent interstate highway driving, I find the quicker
response and extra power worth it.

It keeps those tailgating V8 SUV's and big Dodge Pickup trucks off your
tail. <G> (Seriously, a tap on the accelerator to show them your car's
power and then they back off and behave. Go figure.) I also find it
helps when one of those trucks wants to pass on the right and cut in
front of you in traffic. (Tap, zoom! Oh, I guess you'll have to use the
left lane on a three lane highway like everyone else.)

  4. Illinois just passed a law which limits left-lane driving to one-half
mile or less. The idea is to use the left lane as a PASSING LANE, not a
    driving lane.

We'll see how well this goes over.

Can't happen soon enough for me here in NY. Of course,
    enforcement may be a problem.

Sounds interesting. In the above I meant that I was in the middle lane
and the SUV chose to pass in the right lane rather than the left lane as
    he should.

Most highways here in the East seem to be too crowded to give up one lane.

Enforcement of the new law sounds like a problem. I already see tractor
trailers use the left lane to pass when they are not supposed to.
