I just bought a used 1999 honda accord ex v6.

After I drove the car for several days, I found the rpm is too easy to
go above 3000 when in drive(D) gear, just need a little press on the
gas padel. I am new on the VTEC engine , is that the normal behaviour
    for VTEC.

Also , the rpm is high compare to my other car. For 60 m/h , the rpm
is 3000; For 80 m/h , the rpm is 4000. When the car in idle, the rpm
is a little above 1000, the dealer said it is normal.

    Besides , I got average 20 mpg.

The car runs good, especially on high speed. Spacious interior, strong
engine, good looking, a little road noise. If I can figure out the low
mpg problem , I'd like to keep the car for a while.

Find another dealer. Over 1000 at idle is too high. Should be down around
    700. It sounds like transmission is not locking while driving. I would have
it checked out by another dealer or a good Honda shop...

  3. Actually, it sounds like the transmission isn't even reaching 4th gear.

    Obviously, this is bad.

Do you have your overdrive cancel button activated?
