Can anyone help me with tips or instructions on how to adjust the handbrake?
    Is it an easy job?

After driving my fiancées car I noticed straight away that the handbrake is
near the end of it travel in order to hold the car.

    Thanks

Darren, the park brake lever MUST do three or four clicks before lockup,
or you'll prevent the rear (drum brakes) adjusters from working
automatically. That's what it says for the CRV, anyway. Rear disks may
    be different.

Your car probably has discs on the rear. If the parking brake lever must be
pulled up that hard to hold the car, then very likely the paring brake clevis
is seized on the lever on top of the caliper.

Check that out before adjusting the cable. With the brake off, you should be
able to rotate the cable end on the lever. If it's stuck fast and won't
move from side-to-side, then that's the problem.
