Acura auto tranny failures

    Want to buy a 97-98 Acura CL but OMG the auto tranny failure rate is so
    high and the 01-02's are WORSE! What is going on with Honda, I thought
    they were reliable???

    they were. then the bean counters took over. that's why honda lost the
    enthusiast market to subaru - they cheaped out and went macpherson strut
    on the civic. may as well buy a corolla for your daily driver now.

    anyway, just get a 4-cylinder accord - still bullet proof.

    Actually they did a pretty good job on Acura RSX using MacPherson struts. It
    is an improvement over the previous suspensions. Corolla is not even close
    when it comes to handling and responsiveness.

    comfort-wise, sure. it's a good freeway cruiser, and it's fast in a
    straight line, but tire for tire, integras are better on the curves.

  5. My ancient Gen II Civis use struts and I challenge anyone to find a
    better handling car. Damned things are glued to the road...

    IMO,Prelude's double wishbone was far better.
    That's what the best open wheel racing cars use.
    and better looking.

    The RSX looks like an Integra that's been overinflated.

    Alot of tranny failures with those too, 98-00 mostly v6's tho. Have an 03
    accord 4 auto and it seems fine

    easy - the gen IV. what you really mean is that it's the best car in
    your experience - which is an entirely different thing.

    they're fine for their year, but the wishbone system performs better.
    that is afterall why it was introduced...

  10. Why would I get something with a computer, complex emissions, expensive
    repair parts etc. that really doesn't provide a measurable (to most)
    improvement in ride, stability and comfort?

    I've driven Gen 1V and really don't see much of a difference. Certainly
    not enough to justify the expense...

    because you want the increase in reliability? computers have nothing to
    do with ride - not on civics anyway.

    then you don't drive very hard. the gen IV shines well above the gen
    II, especially above above 15mph..

    well, that's your opinion. blanket statements like "I challenge anyone
    to find a better handling car" simply speak to your lack of experience
    and/or closed mind.

  12. Computers increasing reliability would be a tough sell. Additionally,
    failures on the road will lead to expensive repairs.

    I drive hard enough.

    Oh, there are better handling cars but that goes along with a lot more
    bux...

    the facts contradict you. computer systems routinely last 50k hours.
    most cars don't have mechanicals that'll get even close to 10k, let
    alone 50k.

    same for carburetion. only more frequently.

    but you still think macpherson and beam axles are superior when they're
    not. that can only mean you're not testing them very hard.

    ok, so say "I challenge anyone to find a better handling car for less
    than $500" then.
