My alternator needs to be replaced on my 1993 Honda Civic EX.....the
Dealer wants around $400.00 for parts & Labor.....I was advised not to
go to Autozone or Pep Boys because their parts are crap.
Sshould I stick w/the dealer or shop around for a good mechanic who
can rebuild mine.....Help needed here, I don't know much about cars at
    all

  2. Most cities have shops that rebuild alternators, generators and
starters. Should be less than 1/2 the price of the Honda alternative...

The one alternator I have bought has worked well for several years now.
I got a rebuilt one at Kragens (= Schuck's Auto Parts = Checker Auto
    Parts).

What you do not want to do is to have Pep Boys or any of the other
non-dealer franchises do the work for you. If you tell us what city you
live in, you can probably get recommendations for a good independent
    shop.

id look for a good independant, that works on hondas. alternators arent
    hard to do.

as for me? id do it myself with a part from NAPA. if none available,
autozone or whatever would work, as long as i got the lifetime warranty :)

  6. Look in the Yellow pages for automotive alternator/starter rebuilders.
Should be at least on in a city the size of Orlando.
