Advice on Fuel Leak

Ok, I am hoping that the learned people of these forums can give me a hand.

I have 93 Accord 2dr LX (cdn edition)

I recently discovered a fuel leak, the fuel return line that passes by the
left rear wheel (right next to the hose bridge) rusted through. We cut off
the about 5" off the pipe and extended the hose. That seems to have fixed
    that.

Next day filled up full tank of gas and noticed another leak. This time it's
coming down on the right side of the gas tank, it's dripping off the tank
itself but is clearly coming off the top. After the car stayed still for a
while the leak stopped which made me think that perhaps it was only there
when the tank is full. Just to check it out, I started the car and let it
idle for while...teh leak didn't come back. I then took the car out for a
moderate drive, when I cam back the leak was back.

So, I have a number of possibilities in mind

    1) the leak is coming from the gas guage - it's on the right side of the
tank right near the top, perhaps it or its housing is leaking. This would
only happen when the tank is full or when gas splashes around (such as what
happened when i went for a drive)
    2) the leak could be in the emission valve, that's right at the top of the
tank, so the same consideration as for the fuel guage may apply
none of the first two really explain why the leak continues after i stop the
car, you would think that it would leak only as it splashes around, not
after the car is stopped (unless it collects somewhere on top of the tank)

    3) the leak is actually in the return fuel line that goes to the fuel pump
on teh left side of the tank. However it is possible that the excess gas
collects somewhere on the tank and then drips slowly. This could possibly
explain why the leak stops after a while as the pump and the hose become
    empty.

any suggestions? unfortunately i can't look at anything without dropping the
gas tank which in itself presents rather large problems.

    thanx

Sorry to say, but you probably need a tank. I've seen a few of them
leaking like that around here in Ohio. Might be a good one in a salvage
yard near you. Only way to be sure is to take the tank off the car and
check. If it is leaking at the seam, I don't know of a repair. bob
