Warm up the car then take a length of aquarium air line stick it into your
dipstick hole, suck up oil into the hose and siphon out a half liter. If
you're scare, stick one end into a turkey baster and suck up the oil. and
put it back into the bottle.

If you're a little lazier, take the oil cover off, stick a plastic bottle
with a large opening or cut an opening into a milk carton, over the hole and
start the engine, rev it a little and let the spray go into the bottle,
you'll have to tilt the bottle to hold some but you'll get a half a liter
    out eventually

There is always a little bit of safety built-in. How much of a margin,
    that's the question :).

  10. Yep. Only cost him a new CTC filter, about 5 bucks.

This is assuming he hasn't started it yet, and hasn't filled the filter. I
trust by now, he has, though...and rechecked the oil level correctly.

There's a first time for everyone.

Avoids having to try to partially drain the oil

Have a 200 EV V6 Accord. I believe that manual calls for 3.5 qt. Dealer
feeds via a nozzle and has been putting in 4 qts. I keep calling it to his
attention as it always shows up on the dip stick as about 0.5 qts above the
full mark. Once after a rude mechanic said "so what do you want me to do
about it?" I had him drain out the excess.

Stephen Bigelow said for all posterity...
Would putting the barely used filter back on really be that bad of
    an idea?

  18. That's fine as long as the contact surfaces are prepared again. I think
it would be easier to loosen the drain bolt and let some dribble into a
    recycling pan.
