aftermarket paint?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Pete from Boston, Oct 25, 2005.

  1. I need to touch-up a few spots on my 90 Accord ("Seattle Silver
Metallic"). I'm wondering, is it a good idea to stick to Honda paint,
or do the aftermarket manufacturers get the color right?

If you are just doing touch-up it probably doesn't matter. We just
had our 2003 Accord repaired in the front end, and the body shop had
to paint the entire front end 3 times to get the flop right. Another
body shop (the one the local Honda dealer uses) said it was because
the first one doesn't use OEM paint.

  3. Given the age of the car, I don't think it really matters now--unless of
course you want to restore it to showroom condition. :)

  5. Your not serious are you? worrying about a match on a 16 year old
vehicle. Unless you kept it hermatically sealed, neither will match.

My 90 (granite gray metallic) was so faded and the clear coat was
peeling that I painted the whole thing with dupont centari to the
original color. It matched the inside trunk (not faded) very well.
