Sound will be the same. Get a K&N Filter with a flow thru exhaust system. Performance should go up OR the sound is so cool that you just can't resist stomping on it more often. Either way you are FAST & Furious!

if your going to do it, get a cold air intake, will increase performance
slightly (maybe 2-3 hp) and will give better gas mileage (slightly again)
unless you like the new sound you only get when your hard on the gas =)

  4. It's okay to do that but it will have very little effect on the
performance of your vehicle. I suggest that you visit a Barnes and Noble
book store and try to find a book entitled, "Honda and Acura Performance
Handbook" by Mike Ancas. You don't have to buy it unless you want to but
you should read Chapter 6--Intake Systems.

hi thnx for your reply, so your saying u wont be able to hear the
difference? i was told u can hear the difference, i dont wanna get a new
exhaust sysetm n stuff cos that costs heaps, just the air filter, about $150
    isnt it?

    what u think?

    thnx

  6. You CAN hear the difference with some of the more expensive sports exhaust
systems but according to the book that I mentioned--you can get a "7 to 8
percent increase in horsepower". I doubt if that is enough for most people
to invest $150-$200 in a unique air filter system. If you really want to
increase the horsepower--you need to install a supercharger system or
turbo charger system. The book discusses all of these issues.

goto ebay and look up a AEM cold air intake for your 98 civic, its about
that price range and as i said before, it will give you a few more hp and
you will be able to hear it. On a side note, if you do get a cold air
intake, be sure to get an air bypass valve also, so you dont suck water into
your engine some rainy day =)

  8. Do they not build cold air intakes with inertial separators to prevent that
    sort of thing happening?
