No more having to buy the V6 to get curtains. Unless you want to. ;^)

In Canada, You can get a 2004 LX-G Accord with four cylinder engine with
side curtain air bags as standard equipment. IMHO, ALL cars should have side
air bags. Recent testing confirms, It can save your life!! Certainly worth
the extra cost. The V6 is just a bonus.

  3. My 4-cyl EX sedan has them. You just have to ask...

Actually, the Accord LX-G doesn't have side curtain air bags. It only has
the ones in the seats that protect your torso. The side curtain ones that
come out of the roof liner to protect your head are only available on the V6
    models.

A 2004 EX with the leather package also has side curtain airbags with
    the i4 engine.

I called Honda Canada about this very issue. No Honda models have the side
curtain (any model Accord). The curtain air bags are only available in the
US. Check the brochure from www.honda.ca and www.honda.com

As far as I can tell from further research, the I4 is now available in
the U.S. with side curtain bags in both the EX and the LX flavors.
This just started being listed as an Accord variation by Edmunds.com a
few weeks ago. Maybe Edmunds is playing catch-up and is a little
behind, so they may have been available for months.

This looks to me like a expansion of availability for mid-2004 models.
By the 2005 model, even the DX will have them.

As to availability outside the US, I have no idea.

Testing indicates that side crash worthiness in an Accord is enhanced
by about 1 "star", so instead of a 4 star rating, it will get 5. It
doesn't sound like much, but 4 stars is like a 10-20 % chance of
serious injury, and 5 stars is less than 10%. The gist of the test
results is that curtains help in any vehicle unless the metal support
structure is so weak that the vehicle starts disintegrating (a Korean
    product as I recall).

For months, yes. My 4-cyl EX sedan arrived on the dealer's lot in late
    December 2003.

Well, I guess any thought of buying an Accord in Canada is out until they
wake up and smell the coffee (from Tim Hortons). I thought we got the same
Accords that the US gets. Doesn't make sense to make two different types of
Accords but then again, since when does a car manufacturer need to make
sense? I'll wait until 2005 and see what happens.

    Thx
