Is there a way to remove the yellow lens on the tail lights assembly on a
'96 civic (2-door) to make it look like the '99 type?

    Basically make this:

    Look like this:

    ... Thanks!

I saw a combo of this once. It definitely made me do a double take. It
was the outside all white bottom combined with the trunk mounted yellow
bottom. I *think* (word used with no true basis in serious knowledge)
the years are interchangeable. Or are the sizes of the lights different?
If not, then buy '99s and install.

I think i'm following what you mean.. The part on the trunk lid (with
the reverse light, and maybe a square inch of yellow?) was left intact,
and the rest was in the 99 style.
Yes, they are.. but try explaining why you want to spend money on
something like that when you've got a kid coming in December and rent is
    way too high. :)

"Honey, someone smashed in the tail lights with a baseball bat.. Guess
I'd better buy some new ones!" :)

Actually, the orange turning single is easier to see in low light
conditions like fog and so on. So it's safer to have orange lights. I
    think you should keep it.

Well, I wasn't planning on "clearing" it out .. That just looks goofy. I
was going to go with a clear lens and an orange bulb.. My '90 prelude was
like that.. I liked it. :)

I popped off one of the assemblies today.. It looks like the outside
plastic itself is tinted orange.. Oh well :)

Actually, as I thought about what I had seen, I had it backwards. What
stood out was the fact there was only a small chunk of yellow showing,
meaning the trunk's light was changed out (all white bottom), and the
outside light was from the previous year(s) (one small chunk of yellow,
    the rest white).
<grin> Keep checking out e-bay for someone dumping theirs because they
went Altezza. The look I mention definitely was a head turner/scratcher.
It took me a moment to figure out why it looked different from all the
rest. My advice--try to do it now, 'cause when December hits, that Civic
dun gone down on the 'to do' list by a mile! Good luck! And congrats on
    the kidlet to be!

As I drove behind the model year in question, I said, "D'oh!" The small
orange chunk is on the trunk side of the light.
The outer light housing is what they had changed to the all white look.

In any event, it made for a one of a kind type of look for the rear
    lights....

    D'oh!!
