My sister-in-law owns a 99 Civic LX. The ATF needs changed. Shop manual
says to drain and refill. Some other sources make reference to a filter.
I am not sure I want to tackle it or have the dealer handle it. What would
any of you recommend? I know about using genuine Honda ATF.

can't get at the filter - it's built in at the factory on the civic
autos. just drain & refill. and don't listen to that "source" any more!

Make sure to also drain the fluid when the engine is warm as it removes more
sludge. Also make sure to wipe off the metal shavings from the drain bolt and
replace with a new crush washer before putting the bolt back on.
