I've been looking at egines for a transplant into my 90 Civic. I'm
looking for a torque motor, not a high RPM VTEC one. The obvious
choice is a 130 HP B18A1 or 140 HP B18B, but I keep running across
B20B's out of late 90's CRV's that are 140 HP with a nice fat torque
    band.

I'm wondering if these motors are the same external size as a B18, or
whether they might have a taller block to accomodate the longer stroke.
I doubt seriously that it would fit if it is a taller block.

What I really wish I could find would be a B21, but that was a 2 year
only motor from a 90-91 Prelude, and apparently rather rare.

The B18 and B20 are exactly the same size.

Besides, the Prelude motor will NEVER fit.

Are you planning on using HASport mounts?????

hey, i'm thinking about a similar project in an '89. the thing is, i
need an automatic [knee problem]. what would you recommend? would the
existing transmission take the increased output?

i've also wondered about some of the later EX vtec motor/transmission
conversions, [because the electronic shift management is /way/
superior], but can't find any reliable info on conversion to odbcII.

    again, any info?

You could modify the point at which the master cylinder piston attached to
the clutch pedal to gain better mechanical advantage. I modified it on my
Civic to reduce pedal pressure by 1/3.
