Took the 91 Civic to the shop yesterday to look at why the fans wouldn't
come on .... after a lot of testing, they determined there's no signal
    from the ECU ..

My ECU's part number is "PM6A09" according to the mech. .. Says that's
what needs to go in it's place.

I searched for that number and couldn't find anything.. though searching
for PM6 ECU got me a lot..

    My questions:

    1) What parts of the part # need to match up for another ECU to work in
    my car?

    2) Would one from a 90 Civic work? Would it have to be from an automatic
    (mine is auto)

    3) What kind of work is involved in replacing it?

The coolant fan is control my the coolant temperature switch on the back of
the engine block. It is the sensor with 2 wires going to it near the oil
    filter.

You do NOT have a bad ECU!

90-91 PM6 for a automatic is what you would need though, if it is bad.
