i'm hoping someone can tell me if my car's symptoms sound like a bad
shift lock solenoid. any comments/thoughts appreciated. i have a 94
    honda accord ex.

while sitting in traffic for 13hrs fleeing hurricane rita, my d4 light
started flashing and speedometer stopped working. check engine light
came on too. after reading some posts, it sounded like the speed
sensor. a couple days later all my guages and indicator lights stopped
working. horn/radio/rear brake lights still seem to work fine. windows
won't go down and have to use shift lock release to get car out of
park. seems to drive fine otherwise. i checked all of the fuses and
fuse 1 was blown. (10A, labelled back-up lights, meter lights). i
replaced it and indicator lights came back until i put my foot on the
brake and tried to shift. it blew again.

looking online i see posts to check the brake switch and the shift
solenoid. since brake lights work (actually one in rear window doesn't)
i'm wondering if it's the solenoid or something entirely different.
would this continue to blow the fuse? i'm hesitant to take it in and
have to have the whole system diagnosted, the car's old with lots of
miles and not worth much. i'm hoping to see if it's something i can
    fix. thanks.

Were you able to resolve the problem you were having? I had the same type
of problem and it was a bad taillight bulb. Don't ask me how but the
center conductor had flatten over time on one bulb that it kept shorting
the taillight circuit to ground and blowing the fuse. Once I replaced that
bulb, I no longer blew the fuse. This was on a '90 Acura Legend. Just like
your car, the shift-lock solenoid, taillights, & the horn were controlled
    by this fuse.

Cool, this post about an older Odyssey would seem to confirm your
    findings:
