Anyone have problems with bird crap in hot weather eating through the paint
on a 2001 Accord (red) in short order?

  3. Did it eat through the surface or just stain it? Bird crap stains go
    away after a while.

Not all of them! It's well known that these can sometimes permanently
damage the paint by corroding the upper layers. I always remove bird
droppings the instant I notice them because I've experienced the
problem on my own vehicles in the past.

I agree. Depending on the species and most recent meal,
bird droppings can have a pH as low as 3. If the suspect
was a berry-eater, forget about it. Droppings will most
definitely etch your clearcoat and paint in a surprisingly
    short period of time.

    Bob,
A further observation: Birds eat gravel / sand for roughage to help with
their digestion. When removing droppings from your car, rubbing should
be avoided, unless you _like_ the sound of sandpaper taking off your
    already softened paint.

  8. Yep it's "environmental" damage alright - the new "environmental" paints
    are just bloody useless.:-(
