Just tonite(Thanksgiving eve) my squeal indicators sensing low brake pad
started and I have a lot of driving to do over Thanksgiving. Does anyone know
how many miles (stop and go) (not heavy highway) you can go before the material
is worn down all the way?? The squeal sound is horrible but I don't want to do
    any rotor damage.
Someone at a dealership once told me you can go 400-500 miles on the
    indicators.

Any advice .....I'll save you a drumstick!
    Thanks
    Neil

Sure. If your driving consists of 100% highway and you never touch the
brake pedal ever. Get them done now, even at Midas if necessary. You WILL
score your rotors very soon if you do not.

you got about one week or two of driving with it before it goes: metal
to metal, maybe more, but i would not want that long.. do it in about
one week and save yourself the grief?????

You may not have any time at all. Pads don't wear evenly. Many times the
inside pads will wear faster than the front. It may be the inside pads are
gone and the sequel is coming from the metal to metal contact. If you can't
do it yourself get them checked immediately. It's is only your life.....

It just depends. Though I have never driven it all the way to metal to
metal, I have pushed the limit of my pads but I have driven for about a
month (~1,500 miles)with combined city/highway before I replace my pads
after the indicators started giving me the noise. Upon careful inspection
of the pads I had removed... I probably could've gone another month or more
with it. 400-500 miles is kinda low... unless it's stop and go traffic for
    400 miles.
