Problem: Once I put my car in Park and come back later to start it it won't
shit. I have to use the key to do the reset for the shit and only then it
will shift. The problem started as the weather started getting pretty cold
about ten days back. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to resolve
    it?

P.S The car doesn't have problems shifting to drive etc. and I don't think
it suffer from the famous broken shift cable syndrome. It just gets locked
into Park. Thanks to all in advance.

when you have the car started you hafto put your foot on the brake to
release a park pin.. put your foot on the brake you should hear a click
take your foot off the brake and u should hear a click again when it is in
park and every time u touch the brake peddle you should here a click when
it is in park only. if u dont here that then it is rusty or sticking.you
said it started when it got cold then it is most likely sticking if it is
a floor mounted shifter take the screws out take the cover off and the
unit should be right there spray a little zep45 or wd40 or some other
spray on it. hope this helps
