Have a 1989 Honda Accord with carburetor.

It's been stalling and running roughly below 2,000rpm.

I have replaced both fuel filters. The problem is somewhat improved but it
still stall. I sued some carb cleaner. It helped a bit for a while.

I have been told that I need a new/rebuilt carburetor. A new carburetor is
$844.00 Cdn at the dealer - that's out of the question.

I would like to rebuild. What parts should I focus on? are there any sources
    for rebuild kits?

    Thanks

Honda sells a top clean kit which works quite well. It has everything
    you'll need except for floats.

However, before you go into the carb head first, have you checked for vacuum
leaks? The carb base gasket (the large rubberized block under the carb) on
these units likes to leak. Spray a little carb clean around all sides of
the base of the carb and check for a boost in idle speed. Also check for
broken vacuum lines. Sometimes you need to check them with a mirror and
flashlight as they like to get holes in them right where they bend.

    Thanks

    Good suggestions.

    I'll try that. I like the old girl a lot - but not $844. I don't think she's
    worth more than $500!
