I have a 2001 Honda Prelude with 27500 miles the CEL light has come
on. I am thinking it is to soon for o2 sensor or the CC any
suggestions I tried the gas cap trick and it has been about a week. I
need to checnge the air filter could this cause it?

An air filter would almost have to be covered in plastic to to cause
problems. AutoZone will read the car's computer for free through a
connector under the dash on the driver's side, but Hondas are some of
the few post-1995 cars with computers that can be read by simply
shorting the correct 2 pins in a certain connector, although with
Hondas this won't provide every possible diagnostic code. See a Honda
or Mitchell manual from a library for instructions. Buy an
inexpensive digital meter to run tests on individual components
because you don't want to replace anything simply because a computer
    code for it is flashed.

  3. Are you sure about that jumper connector for the 2001 Prelude? Sure my '99
Integra has the jumper but our 2K Accord does not. AFAICT Honda dropped
the jumper on post 1998 cars and the Prelude was revamped for 2000 in many
areas. Jumper the wrong thing and you could do a lot of damage.

  4. Have you been topping up the gas tank when you fill up? That can get
liquid into the evaporative emmissions system and cause it to throw a code.
This was one of the things which the EPA went after all the auto mfrs for -
EPA felt that the systems were not responsive, sensitive enough to minor
    perturbations.

If you take it to the dealer with the MIL on, it seems that standard
procedure is to reset the ECU, by removing the backup fuse and send you on
your way... to see if it recurs. They'll likely also read the code of
    course.

The air filter should not be causing the problem... unless you live in a
    dust bowl.
