Certified Pre-Owned Civic Help

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Matthew Lobur, Aug 18, 2003.

  1. Hello All,

I am looking to buy a pre-owned Civic.

    Stats:
    *****
    I live in Central Jersey
    1998 LX 4Door Civic
20,000 miles, Exterior in Good shape but not great

I did a Kelly Blue Book on it came up $7970.

My question is, how much more does the certified pre-own stamp add to the
    cost of this car?

The dealer quoted me 10995 and by just trying to get out the door to the
next dealer the price fell to 9895.

    Thanks

'Certified' just means they had a guy run through a checklist.
Probably the same checklist that a mechanic would do if you had him do
a pre-purchase inspection. If they're offering some kind of warranty,
then it might be worth a little more to you (not 2 grand tho').

20k seems low for a car that's almost 6 years old. It should still be
on the original tires with most of the tread left. Someone else might
be able to tell you what tires it was wearing when it came off the
    assembly line.

It also means that the car was driven infrequently and/or on short trips,
neither of which is the easiest on the engine. I'd want to see records
showing frequent oil changes on a car driven like that.

Also check the pedals - if they're really worn or brand new, somebody's
    fibbing.
