Check Engine Light + Odd Shifting (Automatic)

Lately I've noticed that my 1997 Honda Civic LX (Automatic) has been
hesitating to shift when going up some hills. This doesn't happen
everytime, but probably more than half. Recently, the check engine
light blinked several times when I was going up a hill. I noticed it
    was hesitating to shift again.

What steps should I take to troubleshoot this problem? I really don't
want to spend (read: waste) the money on a diagnostic.

I just had the O2 sensor replaced a month ago.

What BRAND name and how much $$$ was the O2 sensor?

Brand was Bosch, I spent around $70 for it.

I didn't buy a generic one, it had the proper connector on it.

    Thanks

  4. It doesn't matter. Get rid of the Bosch, and bite the bullet and get an OEM
    O2 sensor.

It's still a generic one with the right connector.
