I have a 2002 Civic LX 4dr and I have noticed recently that whenever I
apply the brakes when first driving my car that the brakes make a
popping noise. This usually only happens once and then goes away.
Does anyone know if this is a problem or not?

Try not to use the brakes when you back up. It should seat itself as time
    passes.

Just the rust...nothing to worry about. It should go away after a few times
of applying the brakes, as you say.

I have a similar with my 2000 Civic si (15K mi.). When driving for the 1st
time of the day in the afternoon, I apply the brakes when backing out - no
problem, but then the very first time the brakes are applied when travelling
forward there is a single, loud "clunk" sound. I would not describe it as a
"pop", but something more severe. It seems to be coming from the area of
the drivers side front wheel, but I have yet to investigate further.

Additionally, on 2 occasions I have been driving along when I notice a
constant screeching sound. It sounds like a sheet metal scraping the brake
rotor sound coming from the same area where the clunk sound occurs. This is
not the wear indicator squeak sound, but a very loud constant screech. I
pull over, stop, and start moving forward again and the sound is still
there. To get rid of the horrible screeching sound I must move in reverse a
few feet. Then everything seems fine.

I can't help but think that the two sounds are related. Some day I'll get
around to looking into the front brake area in detail.

I have the same symptoms with my 2002 civic but this is happening on
the drivers side front. Any ideas as to what could be causing the
"Clunk" (once a day in the morning when driving forward and applying
the break for the first time)
