    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else with a 2003 Civic LX has noticed a similiar
noise. It seems like everytime I let my Civic sit for an extended period of
time, usually overnight I get this noise the first time I back the car out
    of my parking space.

I think the noise is coming from the stearing column but it could be from
one of the front wheels. The noise sounds like two pieces of metal that
where hung up on each other finally where able to be released. Similiar to a
CV joint noise but a much lower sound, not so much of a high click, and it
only happens once, not over and over.

    thanks

I think that I may have the same happening to my car. 2002 Civic.

This only happens once in the morning after the car has been sitting
    in the driveway over night.

I reverse out of the driveway and then drive forward. The metallic
"Clang" comes only once at the first depression of the brake pedal
    while travelling forward.

I haven't been able to figure out what it could be. I've had my
mechanic inspect the car for loose brake components and joints but he
said everything was in good order.

The ABS makes a noise when it syncs up. That is probably what you are
    hearing. If so, it's normal.

There's a 90% chance that you're referring to the brake calipers clicking.
It happens whenever you brake after changing directions. For example:
reverse, brake, forward, brake, click. It actually has nothing to do with
how long it's been parked, it's just that you usually back out of your
    parking space after parking.

It's been a frequent complaint on the new Civics (starting with the 2001).
Google for civic brake click, and you'll find tons of postings. The
consensus is that it's nothing harmful, just annoying. And it doesn't seem
    like it can be fixed.
