ok, so i discovered - it's easy to swap out the rear brake backing plate
without taking off the whole rear trailing arm - just needs a T50 torx
driver & a 24mm wrench. /much/ much easier than swapping out the
trailing arms in fact, you don't need to get the suspension realigned
    afterwards either.

next question - is there any vehicle in either the honda or acura lineup
that has a 1" brake master clinder that's a bolt-on replacement for the
89-91 civic? i've discovered that the 88 accord power servo is a
bolt-on substitiute, and its master cylinder is close at 15/16", with
the brake outs /mostly/ the same [not exactly, but close enough].

any ideas? does the EX or del sol have anything that would work? i
don't want to bend or mess with the brake lines if possible - i want to
be able to reverse the conversion later.

Are you saying that to change the rear drums to the OE disc setup does not
require changing the trailing arms, just the backing plates? If so, I'm going
to do the same thing with my '90 CRX.

absolutely. the trailing arm has every single threaded bolt hole,
/everything/ ready to go. my donor was a 98 integra. the patient was
an 89 civic. the only issue was the master cylinder. i'm not done with
that yet, but i'm probably going to go with the power servo & 15/16
cylinder from an 88 prelude s. it's about as close to bolt-on as i've
    found.

the only thing about the trailing arms is that the torx bolts are really
tight in there - probably loctited. i broke two of those useless lisle
T50 drivers from sears before i bought a proper one. after that, it was
    a piece of cake.

Lisle used to be pretty good stuff.
What brand did you wind up with?

I don't know about bolt pattern, but here's a few that the Raybestos book lists
    with 1" master cylinder:

    Prelude 1993 - 2001 except S
    Prelude 1992 Si
    Accord 1991 4-door, SE
    Accord 1992 EX
    Accord 1993-01 w/ABS
    Accord 2001 -02 all w/ABS, and 6-cyl LX & EX w/o ABS
    Acura Integra 1990 - 93, 1994-96 w/ABS
    Acura Integra 1997 -98 all exc RS, 1999 - 2001 all
Acura Legend all 1989 - up
Acura number (2,2 CL, 3,5 RL etc) almost all use 1"

    Hope that helps

something made in taiwan. "perfect tool" or something like that. i
normally love lisle but in this application, they suck. stay away from
1-piece torx tools - the heat treatment seems to be all messed up. the
first one, the teeth chipped off in brittle failure, the second, they
just turned off like butter. get a 2-piece with seperately hardened insert.

no. the official line is that only craftsman has the unconditional
guarantee. but after they'd whined a bit, but they did give me my money
back. customer service makes sears is my #1 choice for where to buy
tools, if they have what i want.

Probably Performance Tool. We well those, and they are almost always a good
value for the money, and the guarantee is just like a name-brand tool - free
    replacement, no problem.

rex, what are the piston diameter options for the del sol master
cylinder? i'm trying to get a 1" that has roughly the same outlet
    configuration as the original.
