I have a 2000 Civic DX. I want to install an aftermarket tachometer and need to tap into the electronic ignition control box to get the tach pulses. Question: Where is the electronic ignition control box located on the car? Thanks.

On the '94 it is inside the distributor, but you probably don't need to
go that far. The ICM has a tachometer output that is pulled to the dash,
and more likely than not the wire is there (behind the instrument
cluster) even on cars without a tachometer. The '94 also had a service
connector in the engine compartment with the tach signal available.
Wouldn't surprise me if they kept that two generations later. In 94 the
relevant wire was blue, but extrapolating that into a 200 model would
    probably not make sense.

Check if your local library has a copy of a service manual for the car
(Haynes, Chiltons, Mitchel etc.). It will have wiring diagrams where you
can find wire colors and connector locations etc.

  4. I don't know about that car, but the floor behind the center console is
a popular place. It's usually under a sturdy shield.

On older Civics, like 88-95, there is a blue connector near the driver's
shock tower for hooking up the tack. On 96-2000, I would remove the
instrument cluster and tap a wire into the tach signal wire on there.

Thanks. Now, if I can just figure out which wire that is....
