Civic Engine Swap Help

Discussion in 'Civic' started by Mr. Nightmare, Jun 5, 2004.

  1. I am looking for anyone who can help me with swapping a B18C into my 95
Civic EX. I am pretty sure I have the basics down but would like to talk to
someone who has actually done it. Thanks in advance.

    OK
    Mostly it's a matter of making sure you have all the auxilliary parts;
motor mounts, axles, a/c mount, throttle cable mount, etc. All stock
honda items, except maybe the throttle cable mount; mine is definitely
    aftermarket.
    Mine was actually a b16a into a 92, but that's physically identical.
also, you will need the correct ecu.
i will be checking in and out over the next few days, post any
    questions you have.

  3. Thanks for the reply Z. From what I have read and been told it looks like I
will have to replace a few parts but mostly it is a bolt in operation.
Mostly what has me worried is the wiring. Since I have the D16Z6 and
already have the VTEC subharness I think I might have to run a couple of
wires for the knock sensor. Does this sound right. If you want to you can
e-mail me at (just remove the numbers).

IIRC, I left the knock sensor disconnected.
I had trouble getting the right ECU. The one shipped with the engine
didn't work at all with it, mismatch with knock sensor, vtec sensor,
etc. For a while I used the original EX ECU, tried a B16 ecu but it
idled so roughly I shut it down immediately, eventually got a chipped
ecu from ebay. works nice, bad gas mileage, sooty tailpipe; i gather
    it's rich.
I certainly didn't run any extra wires, though.

GSR will need extra wires ran for Knock sensor and secondary intake
    runners........

Try here first, it is the original everyone copied from...........

Now that I think about it, it stands to reason that different versions
of the B series engines would have slightly different sensor
configurations. so, I don't know if my B16 had a knock sensor or not.
If not, then not running the wire wouldn't be a problem.
