Howdy, 2000 Civic 4 dr DX here, passenger side headlight lens cover is
looking scratched and getting opaque. I thought it might be some spray up
from road paint or other such thing and tried to clean with many solvents to
no avail. I've always kept a covering of rainx on it, if that matters.
Anyway, I called the local Honda dealer and was quoted a price of over $200
    for the part.

I see at the site below that $87.95 price is way below Hondas'. I'd rather
just have my mechanic do the work. Is this a reputable on-line source? If
not, can anyone here direct me to an appropriate place where I can buy the
assembly for this 2000 Civic 4dr DX?

    Thanks...

never heard of em. chances are its legit, but all the parts are made in
china. sounds like youre pretty picky about your car... you sure you
wanna put chinese parts on it? if not, why not just get the "clear
    corners" or "projector beam" lights?

No not picky, just want a standard replacement unit.

    Thanks for the reply...

I have ordered mostly from two other online OEM honda parts
sites (Majestic and San Leandro Honda) in the past and
/thought/ they were the best deal to be had. But I just
compared their prices to the ones at your site. Wow; your
    site has much lower prices.

The part numbers given at your site do match the OEM ones
given at one of my sites. I think I'd just call partstrain
and confirm they sell OEM parts but otherwise I'd sure give
them a try. If you do, please update the group on how the
transaction went, because I for one am bookmarking the
    partstrain site.

I do see the OEM parts partstrain sells are somewhat
limited. E.g. I can't find the oil filter, timing belt, or
water pump for my 91 Civic at it.

I just noticed the following disclaimer at the partstrain
    site:

"We guarantee that all parts are from the most recognized
and trusted suppliers with ISO-9001 and ISO-9002
certification and more. Our extensive line of auto parts are
engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications."

Still, since my car is older and it does not have to look
perfect, I think I'd consider them for headlight assemblies,
    among other things.

I bought something equivalent (passenger-side headlight for my 1991
Civic). These are substitute parts, not OEM. They fit well enough (had
to battle a bit to get all the mounting screws to go back in exactly),
and the lenses are just as clear, but the headlight housing lacked
those heat outlets/evaporator lines/pressure equalizing valves or
whatever the OEM headlights have. Have had that substitute headlight
for two years now, and the headlight cover glass is still looking good
(no hazing or clouding up). The headlight I bought had been
manufactured by a company called DEPO AutoLamps.

Perhaps you had a leaky headlight housing which brought in road
grime/salt and coated the headlight from inside? Never have heard of
Honda headlights clouding-up so fast. The remaining OEM headlight in my
91 Civic is still clear as ever after all these Michigan
    winters..............

    currious about the opaquing

any chance you used a product that contained ammonia or some other acrylic
    attacking substance ??
i don't think rain-x has ammonia so maybe that is not the culprit

is opaqueness just from scratching ?

I got a corner light for my 96 cavalier from them about six months ago and
it went in with no problem. Matched the original one perfect.....

It looks as if someone ran some sand paper over it. Defiantly small
    scratches upon closer inspection.

In that case, have you tried fixing it yourself with Micromesh?
    It's a $30 gamble to buy sheets from 1500 through 12,000 and
see if they'll clear up the scratches without having to replace
    the unit.

harbor freight sells a buffing wheel and compound. chuck the wheel into
a drill, pick the compound to polish plastics, and go for it.
one cause is the sun. the major cause.
