Civic Hybrid oil change

Discussion in 'Civic' started by netnew.comcast.net, May 14, 2004.

  1. Dear reader,

I just reached my 1st oil change level on the Civic Hybrid. Wow.. what a
price shock on the dealer charge on an oil change. $50 each time.

Since the oil required is 0 weight. Only Honda dealer sells them. Please
advise if any of you used 10/40 weight or 30 weight should be sufficient in
    the Pacific Northwest.

Any advise would be most appreciated. I have been changing oil for all of my
car for the past 10+ yrs. Ranging from BMW to Honda Odyssey and Jaguars. I
just like to makesure the job is done right at a reduced cost.

I think that you made a fine choice in buying the Civic Hybrid--especially
now that gasoline is so expensive. I advise you to only use the type of
oil recommended by Honda and I also advise you to have Honda or some other
service center (that has excellent receipts) change the oil and do the
other required service. Do this while your Hybrid is under warranty. I've
seen some posts from various people in this newsgroup over the course of
the last year indicating that some Honda dealers use every escuse they can
find to deny you service when your vehicle breaks down. If you have
service records to prove that you done all of the required service at the
proper times, it will be impossible for any Honda dealership to refuse to
fix your vehicle under the warranty agreement.

Just buy the oil from the dealer and change it yourself. The owner's manual
has instructions how to do it. All Honda cars are designed so that every 2
bit mechanic can do the basic stuff... I can't believe that *oil change*
has to be done by the dealer.

Only if every two-bit mechanic has a lift or has a chest only 3" thick.

Here in Atlanta all the dealerships charge 29.99 and sometimes dive down to
19.99 if you ask really nicely.

  7. If the Civic hybrid is like the Insight it uses 0W-20 oil. The problem
isn't that the dealer has to do the change, the problem is that you
    can't get 0W-20 at Shucks.

I wouldn't use a heavier weight oil. Oil viscosity isn't arbitrary.
Getting oil from A to B is important. Find 0W-20.
