Have a 2002 CRV. When you initially put the transmission into reverse or
drive after the vehicle has been sitting for a while there is a clunking
noise that sounds as though it could be coming from the brakes but the sound
does come from the rear. only does it once so that if you put it into
reverse and then into drive you only get the noise in reverse. Anyone else
    seen this problem.
    thanks

Did you know that your 2002 CRV has been recalled? When you take it in to
have the airbag repaired under the recall--ask the service manager to
    check the brake system.

Not sure about the noise, but if you're over 30,000 miles, and you're
taking it to the dealer anyway, have them change your Dual Pump Fluid
(one litre). Saves you inquiring about the 'other' noise in a few months
    from now. :)

    Aloha Chris-

i've got the same problem on a brand new 2004 CR-v. Happens only when it
sits over night. I thought it might be the tranny but will check to see if
it's comming from the rear. If you track it down would appreciate an
    e-mail. I'll do likewise! Larry
