clutch kit advice

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Ropert's Aloha, Jul 28, 2004.

  1. Any suggestions as to choosing between a Carquest clutch kit which they say
is a Sachs or the Napa kit which is by Perfection Clutch also called Zoom.

It's for an 89 Civic that has 142k miles. Not for racing, just
transportation. The car isn't worth putting an OEM from Honda for $300 out
    here in Hawaii.

    thanks in advance

I've put in a couple of Luk clutches in different vehicles. No
problems to report. The kits were complete with pressure plate, pilot
and throwout bearings, alignment tool, and clutch disk. Reasonably
priced if I recall. Probably about $100-150 for your car.

I suspect either the Napa or Carquest parts are fine. Just make sure
    they include everything you'll need.

dunno bout carquest, but napa sells good parts. they supply to the
independant mechanics, who cant afford to have "go backs" and do the job
    over.

Actually, NAPA sells the same parts all the rest of the stores do, if they
choose to stock a quality line. Raybestos, Perfect Circle etc.
NAPA parts are made by those guys and packed in the NAPA boxes.
Any good independent jobber serving professionals primarily can sell you the
same quality parts in their native brand, almost always for less money.
Not to take anything away from NAPA, they do well, and they have established
their niche in the market, and it's a good one.
