I have a 85 renault alliance with starting problems once warmed up.
I replace the coil and that did not solve the problem.

In the old days when you took the high voltage lead off the
distributor and held it close to a ground and cranked the engine it
would jump the gap with a good spark. The spark I get from my 85 is
rather anemic. I have to look close to see if it is even sparking.
Should I see a more intense spark?

    thanks tom

    Yes!

Wipe out the inside and outside of the distributor cap and do the
plug leads and rotor as well. I had a similar problem on my '82 BMW 320.
