Am having to replace my 2002 cr-v CD player for the 2nd time in 2 months because of mechanical problems -- won't eject or change CDs. Was told that CDs would eventually be returned. Meanwhile, I'm wondering what might have caused the jam up.
Unhappily, I can accept that. But that begs two related questions -- is that also a problem with home changers and, if not, what makes it different in autos? Not likely to be heat because the CDs show no characteristic signs of being overheated.
I think the difference is mainly related to size. Home units have room for a larger drive mechanism while space is at a premium in cars. The label takes too much room and jams. The home units I have are tray based. Auto units normally suck the CD in and spit it out... hopefully. Mike
Interesting thought; however, there were only 3 CDs in the changer when the jamming occurred. Seems more likely that the CDs are sticking together.
I don't know the internal workings of the changers. My wife put a labeled CD in our Toyota 6 CD changer and I was lucky to be able to grab the edge and get it out of the little slot. I think even a single labeled CD can jam inside some units. Mike
Just received word from someone else owning a Toyota who had her 6-CD changer jam with NON-labeled, commercial CDs and wasn't as fortunate as your wife. Time for another recall notification ... or a portable CD player sitting in the front seat. -- digger
I have troubles with my 2002 CRV Cd player every now and then too. All of a sudden it starts skipping and then it stops. Also sometimes I get the BUSY message. It does get very annoying when it happens. I have considered replacing it with a aftermarket player.
Mine also occasionally skips and stops. Have begun playing only single CDs in two varieties -- those which are store bought and those which have been burned -- BOTH w/o any homemade labels -- to compare skipping and stopping as well as confirm freedom from jamming.
