Nationwide Class Action Filed on Behalf of Purchasers of Honda CR-V Sports it's not a defect!! the NHTSA has already invesigated this. it's caused by morons who can't change oil! most people have known about this for 20 years or more, don't double gasket the filters!! the 0-ring is not the problem it's the idiot installing the filter. any decent service manual says to wipe the filter mount with a rag to make sure it's clean and no gasket remains. they need to go after the people who changed the oil not the manufacturer. but the courts will entertain the most assinine of lawsuits these days. Chip
The NHTSA notes did say that it had happened without double gasketing, specifically crimping of the new gasket on tightening. Again this *is* operator error of course: not lubing the gasket properly or massive overtightening. (Chip Stein) wrote: This may be all good and true, but can you explain why it's happening *only* with the CRV? That sounds like a problem with the car, not the techs (And these were Honda techs! Wait until the car starts seeing Jiffy Lube!). If they can change the oil on _every_other_make_and_model and not have them catch fire, what is it about the CRV's design that has led to this problem? I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.....
