Anyone have any experience with both of these? I'm bouncing between
both, looking for a 4WD for some 3-season light travel trailer/utility
trailer hauling but predominantly winter rural driving (high, tough
snowdrifts on the prairie). Looking to buy something that will last
    many years.

  2. Go to EBAY at

    are reasonable and negotiable.

the xterra would probably be more suited for towing, but the CRV will
likely be more troublefree. how bout a tacoma 4dr 4wd?

Xterra => Gas guzzler. period. 14mpg is a norm. The engine is not the
reason, the weight is! Over 4000lbs. compared to 3300lbs for CRV
    CRV => 22-24mpg is normal.

Only great thing about Xterra, is that it can pull a medium size trailer no
problem, as for the CRV, it's limited to 1500lbs.

Also, the Xterra is better suited as an offroad compared to the CRV, but the
CRV is not that bad in snow. Owned one since 2 winters now. Driven through
several snow storms in Quebec and Ontario.

Safety wise, the 2005+ CRV beats Xterra quite easily. Standard VSA and all
    around air bags.

Hmmmm . . . . that Xterra fuel "economy" figure is similar to large
SUV's. If that is the case, why even bother with the compact Xterra
    (a rhetorical question to myself)?

Appreciate the information. It is similar to what I'm hearing
locally. Is there no compact (or close to) SUV that can haul a small
trailer w/o long term problems and that can maintain some reasonable
    fuel ecomony?
