Dash Preservative Opinions???

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Grumpy AuContraire, Aug 26, 2006.

  1. What do most folks use to preserve the dash covers etc. these days that
    really works?

I'm leaning towards a silicon based solution as I think stuff like
    amorall suck...

Probably the best thing is a fold up reflector.

^ Thats the best, because it blocks the sun altogether.

Do NOT use anything at all excpt *plain water*. The vinyls in use today are
very durable on their own. The snake oils sold for vinyl "preservation" are
more likely to cause long-term damage as their components break down under
    heat and UV.

If you're in a very hot environment like Arizona, get a light-colored cloth
dash cover to keep heat and UV away from the vinyl, or get the wife to sew
    one up.

  5. I like the dash cover idea but absolutely refuse to "get a wife" to do
anything. I remember after using amorall on my vintage truck's original
dash material, it fell apart within a couple of months...
