different oil viscosity?

I was wondering if there is any problem with using two different types
of oil. My accord burns alot of oil (mostly bluesmoke on startup,
especially when cold) and sometimes I have to add a quart of 10-40 to
my pan full of 10-30 because thats what the closest store has in stock.
Is this bad for the car?

Better than no oil. Not a problem, especially just adding a single
quart. I wouldn't really want to do this on a new low-mileage engine,
though I presume yours is not.

If you live somewhere that doesn't freeze, I've heard maybe 15W-40.
It's really a stopgap fix until a rebuild or a new car.

or try the new "high mileage" oil, and see how that works out. worth a shot.
