Are civic engines (D-series) INTERNALLY or EXTERNALLY balanced? I
mean... does the crankshaft have counterweights, or is the flywheel
    responsible for the balancing?

internal balance, but do NOT use a lightweight/underdrive crank pulley.

Why? Does it shred the drive belts / hammer the front bearing ?

  5. Why do you think it had anything to do with the pullys???? what I am
seeing in the picture is oil starved bearings, not hammered ones????? KB

bearings #1 and #5 were fine.
#1 is closest to the oil pump, #5 furthest from the pump, #5 would have
    starved first.

  7. I guess what still is strange is unless the pic is just not detailed
enough, the bearings look scuffed, not hammered out, not a symptom that I
can place with a diff front pully, even if it were out of balance. KB
