I have a 99 civic EX with automatic transmission. At what speed
should my engine be idling? It currently seems to idle around 200-400
RPM. I think I remember it idling around 1000 RPM when it was new,
    but I could remember wrong.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Usually automatics idle at 600-800 RPMs when the engine is hot, 1000 or more
    when first started cold.

There should be a sticker on the inside of your hood stating what the
recommended RPM ranges are. It might covered in dirt and grime but it
should be there. If memory serves, the automatic should idle around 800,
where the manual trannies should idle around 1100, or something like that.

  4. I cannot recall any engine that can maintain an idle of 200-400rpm. Hell
the starter probably turns the motor over at 200rpm. I think your tach is
off. I don't even think your car would run if the idle was less than 600
    rpm

I imagine when warmed up it should idle at about 800rpm
